Iron Sucrose Infusion

A safe and effective IV iron replacement therapy for patients with iron deficiency anemia who cannot tolerate or absorb oral iron supplements.

Initial Consultation & Labs Required

Iron sucrose infusions require an initial consultation with our licensed NP and recent lab work confirming iron deficiency before treatment can begin. This ensures appropriate dosing and patient safety.

What Is Iron Sucrose Infusion?

Iron sucrose is an intravenous iron formulation used to treat iron deficiency anemia — particularly in patients who cannot absorb oral iron due to GI conditions, bariatric surgery, or intolerance. Unlike oral iron, IV iron sucrose delivers iron directly into the bloodstream where it is immediately available for red blood cell production. It is well-tolerated and has a strong safety profile compared to older IV iron formulations.

Who Is This For?

Iron Deficiency Anemia

Clinically confirmed iron deficiency with low ferritin, low hemoglobin, or low transferrin saturation that has not responded to oral supplementation.

GI Intolerance to Oral Iron

Patients who experience significant nausea, constipation, or GI distress with oral iron supplements.

Malabsorption Conditions

Celiac disease, Crohn's disease, ulcerative colitis, or post-bariatric surgery patients who cannot adequately absorb oral iron.

Chronic Blood Loss

Patients with heavy menstrual bleeding, GI bleeding, or other sources of chronic blood loss requiring ongoing iron repletion.

Fatigue & Low Energy

Persistent fatigue, brain fog, shortness of breath, and poor exercise tolerance caused by iron deficiency.

Pre-Surgical Optimization

Rapidly replenishing iron stores before elective surgery to reduce transfusion risk and improve recovery.

Protocol & What to Expect

01

Initial Consultation

Your licensed NP reviews your symptoms, medical history, and current medications to confirm iron sucrose is appropriate for you.

02

Lab Work

Recent labs including CBC, ferritin, serum iron, TIBC, and transferrin saturation are required to confirm deficiency and calculate your total iron deficit.

03

Your Infusion Session

Iron sucrose is administered slowly over 30–60 minutes. A test dose may be given at your first session. Most patients require a series of infusions to fully replete iron stores.

04

Follow-Up Labs

Labs are repeated 4–6 weeks after completing your infusion series to confirm iron repletion and assess response.

Pricing

Per-infusion pricing. Number of sessions determined by your NP based on lab results.
